Our Aquarium is made up of 4 main zones, with a variety of habitats, amazing animals and educational information found in each. You’ll start your journey in the local waters of the Plymouth Sound Marine Park and finish in the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef.

Plymouth Sound is the natural harbour found just outside the NMA’s doors. This habitat showcases the beautiful and fascinating animals found right on our doorstep in Plymouth. From rockpools to the shallow sandy seabed, we even have our very own shark nursery with eggs from our breeding programmes. This area is where you can pick up our seasonal trail sheets, and check out the ‘What’s On’ screen for shows and timings.
The Eddystone Reef habitat has the largest single Aquarium viewing window in the UK and is home to a stunning array of our local Ocean creatures, including sharks and rays! You can spot many of these animals when out snorkelling or exploring the coastline of Plymouth and further afield around the British Isles. Our Dive and summer shows are presented in front of this habitat!
Our impressive Atlantic Ocean habitat is the deepest Aquarium habitat in the UK, holding a whopping 2.5 million litres of water! Animals that call Atlantic Ocean home, range in size from tiny Angelfish all the way up to the huge Sand Tiger Sharks and Southern Stingrays. Our exciting shark shows are presented in front of this habitat!
You have travelled around the world’s Ocean! You have journeyed from Plymouth Sound to stunning tropical waters, which include our final habitat, the Great Barrier Reef. Our Australian-inspired, 650,000 litre reef habitat showcases some of the most colourful fish found in the Ocean. Our coral shows are presented in front of this habitat!
