The OCT is an Ocean conservation charity, focussed on habitat restoration and behaviour change, that owns and runs the National Marine Aquarium, one of Plymouth’s top tourist attractions. Our aquarium in Plymouth includes three large mixed displays of 500,000L, 650,000L and 2,500,000L. One is themed on our local marine life and is the largest native exhibit in the UK.

We are looking to recruit a Snorkel Experience Supervisor to join the Husbandry Department. Reporting to the Curator, the role will involve supervising and guiding the public during their experience, ensuring the highest health and safety standards are adhered to along with ensuring all equipment is maintained to a high standard. The role will also include overseeing our “Feed the Turtle” experience whereby the public can help to feed Friday the green turtle. When not operating these experiences, the successful candidate will also assist the husbandry department with their day to day animal care duties.

We are looking for an individual who has experience of organising aquatic activities whilst offering the highest standard of customer care. Successful candidates who meet the essential criteria below will be invited for interview:

ESSENTIAL

· Interest and enthusiasm for/knowledge of marine wildlife and conservation.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Excellent organisation and time management skills.

· Able to demonstrate flexibility in work pattern.

· Experience working with children, young people and/or adults in an informal or formal educational setting.

DESIRABLE

· Regular experience of diving/snorkelling.

· Animal care experience in a zoo/aquarium setting.

The hours are 37.5 per week with an annual salary of £21,873.

Due to the nature of our business all applicants must be available to work weekends, public and bank holidays and throughout the school holidays.
