Help us Seed the Change – 18th-25th April 2024

Our charity, the Ocean Conservation Trust, are really excited as for the first year ever we’ve been offered an incredible opportunity to take part in the Big Give Green Match Fund campaign from the 18th-25th April!

At the Ocean Conservation Trust, based at the National Marine Aquarium, we are working hard to protect, regenerate and restore seagrass at scale through our ambitious Blue Meadows programme. Seagrass is a vital habitat, important for carbon storage, oxygen generation and it provides a home for millions of fish and invertebrates.

By taking part in the Big Give Green Match Fund, every donation you make during the 18th-25th April will be DOUBLED for our Blue Meadows programme. Please only donate through the official Big Give webpage, which you can find on the button below.

Our goals are ambitious, because that’s what the Ocean needs.

Over the next 5 years, we are aiming to protect 10% of all UK seagrass meadows, as well as develop a blueprint to restore seagrass at scale. We will do this by identifying existing meadows, using marker buoys and alternative moorings to highlight the sensitive seagrass and prevent damage to it. Whilst also engaging with local communities and stakeholders to raise awareness of the importance of seagrass.

Our restoration work relies on harvesting seeds and growing them in our facilities until they are strong enough to be replanted, whilst also driving innovative research into new restoration methods. Our skilled and passionate dive team monitor all of our protection, regeneration and restoration work, so we can assess the impact we are having.

To do this, we need your help! Will you help us seed the change?

The National Marine Aquarium (NMA) is the UK’s largest aquarium, located in Britain’s Ocean City, Plymouth. It is run by the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity dedicated to connecting people with the Ocean.
