The NMA is an Ocean Conservation Charity with the vision of a world supporting a healthy Ocean to sustain all life. We have been connecting people with the Ocean for over 20 years.
Our Aquarium in Plymouth includes three large mixed displays of 500,000L, 650,000L and 2,500,000L. One is themed on our local marine life and is the largest native exhibit in the UK.
An exciting opportunity for a Biologist / Diver has arisen in our Husbandry team who are responsible for delivering all the day to day care our aquatic livestock require. You would be joining one of the most experienced and knowledgeable aquarist teams in the country which is passionate about leading the way in developing the aquarium industry. Evidence shows that being exposed to nature helps people want to look after it and therefore we create exhibits that help people connect to the animals and their habitats.
The successful candidate will ideally be at the early stages of their career in the public aquarium industry and have a keen interest in this field. One year’s relevant experience is necessary in order to have some knowledge in fish keeping basics and life support systems. We are looking for someone who is a good team player, has excellent attention to detail and a responsible attitude.
A diving qualification to at least PADI Dive Master or equivalent is preferred, although we would consider PADI Rescue Diver in certain circumstances. The ability to pass a HSE commercial dive medical is also essential.
This role is full-time working 37.5 hours per week. Work will be on an annual rota’d basis to provide 7 day cover, providing the very best exhibit maintenance, animal nutrition and welfare, diving operation support, record keeping and reporting. Due to the nature of our business all applicants must be available to work weekends, public and bank holidays and throughout the school holidays.
The salary for this role is between £17,000 and £18,662 per annum, dependent on experience and diving qualifications.
