Toddler Blog – Walruses

23rd November 2017

This week’s session overview

This week we have been learning about wonderful, wobbly walruses! We practiced our sign language, learnt all about walrus body parts and sang lots of songs! We got hands on and messy painting our own paper plate walruses and testing out our own blubber glove to find out how walruses keep nice and warm!

3 facts about walruses

  1. Walruses are up to 11.5ft tall and can weigh 1.5 tons, the same as 1500 bags of sugar!
  2. Walruses love to eat shellfish and use the sensitive hairs on their moustaches to find them on the seafloor! They can eat up to 4000 in one day!
  3. Walruses have big tusks which can be up to 1m long, they use them to haul themselves onto the ice or to poke breathing holes into the ice sheets as they swim underneath them.
