Toddler Blog – Dolphin

6th March 2018

Today we discovered all about the delightful dolphin! We learnt all about the different parts of a dolphin’s body, made our very own spinning dolphins and went on a quest to see how many dolphins we could find hidden around the aquarium! A dolphin’s favourite thing to do is to play and have fun, so in true dolphin style we played lots of fun games, blew bubbles and danced our fins off!

3 facts

  1. The smallest dolphin is the Maui dolphin, found off the coast of New Zealand which grows to around 6 feet long. The largest dolphin is the Orca, also known as a Killer Whale, can grow up to 26 feet, that’s as long as a bus!
  2. Dolphins do have excellent eyesight and hearing but they use echolocation to locate hidden objects and hunt for food.
  3. Dolphins have one set of teeth and only use them to catch their food. Once they have snatched a tasty fish out of the water they swallow them whole without chewing!
