After winning a BIAZA Silver award for the past two successful events, this February Half Term we are bringing back ‘Sea the Difference’ with the theme ‘Explore the Shore’.
The NMA is situated on the shores of Plymouth Sound, a beautiful natural harbour and a Marine Protected Area, home to cold-water corals. The South West has over 13,000km2 of Marine Conservation Zones and the longest National Trail in the UK, the South West Coast Path, at a staggering 630 miles of continuous coastline trail!
All this makes the South West an ocean lover’s paradise. We want everyone to enjoy and appreciate this amazing area of the world by exploring the shore for themselves.
We have partnered with organisations from throughout the South West, including RSPB, Devon Wildlife Trust and the South West Coast Path, (plus more to be announced) so that any one who visits us in Half Term can meet scientists, conservationists and marine heroes who all champion ocean conservation all under one roof. Come and learn all about the positive work that is taking place to look after our precious seas, the threats facing our native marine life, and the small actions you can take at home to help.
There will be a variety of activities and games to join in with throughout the week, including our NMA Trail which will lead you around the building to find a Plastic Polar Bear. Artists will have made a life size Polar Bear out of single use plastic to highlight the problem of plastic pollution and how our discarded plastic reaches even the most pristine and inaccessible places on our planet.
This half term week is set to be jam packed full of fun activities here at the NMA. Join us to explore the shore and find out what you can do to help your local Ocean.
