STEMFest

STEMFest 2019

The NMA is gearing up for STEMFest 2019, and we want you to be a part of it!

This year, we’ll be teaming up with Princess Yachts – a British luxury yacht manufacturer based in Plymouth – to offer an exciting programme that will see schools getting involved with a ‘Big Boat Build’ and acquire and hone the practical skills needed to build a real boat!

As a special addition to this year’s STEMFest, participating schools will also be presented with a flatpack rowing boat kit to take back to school so that they can build and customise it themselves.

Princess Yachts will allocate each school a STEM ambassador who will visit the children three times during the construction of each boat, offering expert support and guidance through the build. Then, once your boat is complete, we will store it here at the NMA ready for its maiden launch in the ‘Kids Afloat Regatta’, in which representatives from all 35 participating schools will have the opportunity to row their customised boats through Plymouth Sound as part of the Mayflower 2020 celebrations!

Princess Yachts employs a team of 3,200 people who design and produce vessels retailing from £300,000 to £17 million each. The company has a global network of distributors and operates competitively, at an international level, making them perfectly placed to impart their technical and practical knowledge and skills.

Set to be the biggest and best STEMFest to date, limited places are available. Sign up now to avoid disappointment!

The Show

Another thrilling STEM Show to close the day from the Learning Team at the NMA. This time we’ll be getting nautical, and as always, we’ll be looking for volunteers to join in the fun up on the stage in front of our Eddystone Exhibit.

After the event

As a special addition to this year’s STEMFest, participating schools will also be presented with a flatpack rowing boat kit to take back to school and build, then personalise. Not only this, but Princess Yachts will allocate each school a STEM ambassador who will visit the children 3 times during the construction of each boat, offering expert support and guidance through the build.

Once your boat is complete, we will store it at the NMA ready for its maiden launch in the ‘Kids Afloat Regatta’ in which representatives from all 35 participating schools will have the opportunity to row their customised boats through Plymouth Sound as part of the Mayflower 2020 celebrations.
