National Marine Aquarium Closure

In line with Government guidance on COVID-19, the National Marine Aquarium will be closing to members of the public from 5pm on Friday 20th March 2020 until further notice.

As a responsible tourism destination, we believe that a temporary closure is in the best interests of the health and safety our staff, volunteers, members and general visitors.

We would like to reassure you that the health of the animals in our care will not be compromised by this decision, and that although our doors will be closed to the public, a team of committed and experienced biologists, and engineers will remain on duty. This team will ensure the wellbeing of our animals and will continue to maintain the Aquarium’s critical life-support systems, while taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves against the spread of COVID-19.

We understand that this will come as a disappointment to those who may have planned to visit us over the coming weeks. If you booked online tickets to the Aquarium in advance of your visit, you can either postpone your visit or request a refund. Keep in mind, that your ticket will be valid for 6 months from the date of purchase and therefore could be used after we reopen. Thank you for your patience at this time whilst we do our best to attend to your questions via email or phone.

Annual Return Passes

Here at the National Marine Aquarium, our charity is playing our part in supporting the government’s plans to halt the spread of the covin-19 pandemic. This means that the Aquarium being closed will impact a number of those with annual return passes who are unable to visit due to the enforced lockdown.

Thank you for your understanding and all the support that you show towards our Aquarium and the work that we are able to do through the Ocean Conservation Trust.

If you have any questions about this, or would like to see how you can support us doing this time, please contact our team at

Will be posting regular updates and interesting content on our social media – visit us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to stay in touch and informed at this time.
