The seahorses are perhaps the ultimate weird creatures. From their unusual swimming style to their breeding in which the male nurtures the eggs, from their jawless mouths to their fascinating colour changes, the seahorses are a great example of the ways that animals can adapt in bizarre ways to the challenges of their environment.

Since opening the Aquarium, our Animal Husbandry team have successfully bred and reared eight species of seahorse.

Our seahorse breeding expertise is now being directed towards international conservation efforts in which we are working in partnership with a number of zoos and aquariums.
