4D Screen on the Sea - now open
The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth will be offering visitors an entirely new immersive experience this year with their brand new 4D Screen on the Sea – the ultimate dimension in entertainment!

Thrill seekers will love this exciting new addition to the attraction. Visitors are transported underwater where they can feel the vibrations from a deadly shark cruising past at close range. Then they can cool off with the spray in their faces as a whale crashes into the sea at their side. Little ones will squeal with terror and delight as a creature from the depths grabs at their legs but will be suitably pleased when the turtle makes it safely back to the beach to lay its eggs.

The Turtle’s Adventure takes you on an underwater journey following the migration of a turtle. Visitors can experience first hand some of the perils that Snorkel the Loggerhead turtle, resident in the Coral Seas tank at the Aquarium, might have encountered on her travels.

Head of Science and Learning, Paul Cox, said:

“The 4D Screen on the Sea lets us offer visitors a completely different experience of the oceans. It’s a fun way of getting people to connect with the marine environment, which is what we’re always working towards at the Aquarium.”

The new cinema is not the only addition to the Plymouth attraction which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. There’s also a new alfresco offering on the catering front.

Situated on the Plaza, directly outside the Aquarium, Sands Coffee Shop is the only pavement Café on the Barbican with a view of the Sound. Open to all from 09:00 serving a range of fresh coffees, pastries and light bites to eat in or take away it’s the perfect place to grab your morning coffee.

Catering Manager, Mark Duchesne said:

“It’s great to be able to offer something a bit different to our visitors, especially now we’ve got the soft play area. ‘Waves’ is perfect for young families but for those seeking something quieter now there’s ‘Sands’. The other nice thing is that people don’t have to visit the Aquarium, they can just come for a coffee but they’re still helping to fund our vital work.”

From the thrills of a four-dimension adventure through the perils of the deep, to a relaxing drink on a waterside terrace; not forgetting all the wonders along the way National Marine Aquarium have really improved their offering for families this year. It looks like it’s going to be a great summer both beside - and under - the sea.
