Ocean Squad – How did it go?

Ocean Squad Blog

Hello, my name is Joe and I have the brilliant job of being able to run Ocean Squad. We have just come to the end of our first session and as we gear up for the summer, I just wanted to tell you a little bit about what we’ve been up to, and what we’ve got install for next time. So here are a few questions which you may want answering and some comments by those who have already taken part…

What is Ocean Squad?

Ocean Squad is a dedicated club for teenagers between the ages 11 and 15. As a team, we explore all realms of our marine environment, through science experiments, tackling engineering problems, being creative and heading out into Plymouth Sound with a bit of snorkelling and sailing.

“Joshua and Charlotte have really enjoyed Ocean Squad and will be sad that its now finished. They have gained new friends, experienced new things and have learned so much about the oceans and marine biology. Its not like school, its been an exciting, fun environment in which they both have learnt so much. Thank you.”

Is it just for marine biologists?

Not at all! Being marine biologist is just a small role in a huge array of jobs that need doing in our marine environment. As well as doing some science bits, we’ll be cooking sustainable seafood meals as well as planning, directing and filming our own conservation videos. All you need is to come along and get stuck in!

“This has been an absolutely fantastic 10 week course. Isaac has enjoyed every session + has learnt so much. It has inspired a deeper interest in marine life, ships and snorkelling. Brilliant leaders. Thank you so much.”

What will I get out of it?

As well as 5 days jam-packed with great activities, you’ll receive your own Ocean Squad t-shirt, a memory stick filled with photos of your time with us, an Aquarium pass giving you access to the building for a whole year and membership to the MBA’s Young Marine Biologist programme (find out more details here!). Plus you’ll gain new skills, try different things and have loads and loads of fun! That’s a whole lot of stuff!

“Thank you so much. I enjoyed every single activity we did and I really want to do it again. See you in the summer.”

How do I book?

Super easy! You can book your place on our website. Simply click ‘Book Tickets’ and then scroll down to Ocean Squad. Or you can follow this link here and that will take you straight to the page.

Hope this has helped. I really enjoyed the first session of Ocean Squad and I can’t wait to do it again. If you have any questions then please contact me- oceansquad@national-aquarium.co.uk and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Hopefully see you soon!
