A guest blog from the Mount Battern Centre

The Mount Batten Centre Charity Trust is a charitable, residential multi-activity centre providing adventurous activities to the community of Plymouth and beyond. Accredited by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, Ofsted, British Canoeing and the Royal Yachting Association for a wide variety of water and land based activities from ages 8 up and upwards. The centre became a charity in December 2015, prior to that it has operated as a not-for-profit organisation for 16 years.

Since converting to charity status the centre has been striving to provide activities to those most in need through applying for grant funding for activity provision or disability-specific equipment, with the centre providing city-wide provision to children with special educational needs and socially-economically disadvantaged youths. We’ve successfully crowdfunded for a specialist canoe called a BellBoat and a giant Stand up Paddleboard, both craft ideally suited for delivering to individuals that need more support on the water.

The Centre is incredibly passionate about connecting with our local coastline and is delighted to be working alongside the National Marine Aquarium on the Sea the difference event. We take real pride introducing people to our beautiful marine environment through Watersports – and we’ll be at the event promoting the various different ways in which you can access the sea from paddleboard to canoe from sailing dinghy to windsurfer we’ve got multiple means of connecting and we want to tell you all about them!

An organisation accredited by the Green Blue, a joint initiative between the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine raising awareness of reducing the impact of the marine industry on the environment, we’ll also be raising awareness of environmentally friendly best practices within Watersports. We’ll also be bringing our dry-land kayak simulators where you can race against your friends to record the fastest time to win a kayaking session at Mount Batten – it’s a great way of trying kayaking without getting wet and is highly competitive!
