Calling all inspiring educators, scientists and marine lovers! Are you passionate about marine conservation and dedicated to helping the next generation connect with our oceans?
The National Marine Aquarium is an award winning charity with a mission to ‘connect us with our oceans’. We’re committed to conserving the marine environment and inspiring others to do the same.
Our Schools Programme is exceptional in its field and has been evaluated over the course of 10 years to show that not only do our sessions cover the National Curriculum, but also promote an interest and love of the marine environment for the students that take part. We want to develop the outreach work that we do further by taking our Schools Programme to new places.
We are currently looking for the right people to join our Discovery and Learning team as a Schools Outreach Officer, one person based in Cardiff and one in Newcastle. Candidates for the Cardiff position need to be fluent in both Welsh and English.
This role will predominantly focus on the marketing, planning and delivery of exceptional discovery and learning activities for school groups. You will be provided with the necessary resources and support from the team based at the Aquarium in Plymouth. Resources will include materials and activities to deliver school curriculum requirements in an engaging way, plus laptop, mobile and other necessary equipment. Support will include training based at the NMA, weekly Skype catch ups and a monthly visit from your Manager.
You will need to be self-motivated and enthusiastic to generate long term working relationships with teachers and schools and achieve bookings. You will need to be a self-starter as much of the time you will be working autonomously and managing your own time.
You will be based at home and will be given full travel reimbursement, plus a working from home allowance. Your home environment will need to be suitable as your base; spending a few hours each week doing the admin required and storing resource materials. You will also need a driving licence and a car.
