With Father’s day happening next week we’ve got plenty of opportunities which you and your dad can enjoy. If you’re local to the Plymouth area there’s loads here to see and do, whether it’s gorgeous outside, or pouring with rain.
You could try a walking trail and explore a new area of Plymouth, of have a nostalgic stroll down an old favourite route. There are amazing areas right on our doorstep like Devonport and Stonehouse, leading to Devonport park, Plymouth’s oldest formal park which has recently undergone a massive restoration. There are many historic and cultural points of interest across Devonport and into Plymouth where, on the other side of the city is Laira Heritage trail. This walk takes you along the Plym estuary, with plaques along the river detailing its interesting history. A visit to the nearby Blagdon’s meadow wouldn’t go amiss either, as this designated County Wildlife Site is home to several notable species of Devon wildlife.
Or, head further afield for a walking or cycling trail in areas such as the Tamar, Rame’s Head, or Dartmoor, to enjoy gorgeous vistas of the Devonshire countryside.
Right in the heart of our Ocean City, from the Hoe to Sutton Harbour, you can explore Plymouth’s nautical nature city its historical connection with the Americas. As one of the largest natural harbours in the world, the sheltered waters of Plymouth sound give it huge historic significance during the age of sail.
In fact, we have the perfect opportunity for a fantastic day out with our NMA Boat Trips! It’ll be a perfect Father’s Day gift where you’ll spend an hour out on the water exploring Plymouth Sound with our Marine Experts. The trip sets sail at 3pm on Sunday the 17th of June and tickets can be purchased here
The National Marine Aquarium is the perfect choice to explore, learn, and discover some of the wonders beneath the waves! Our massive tanks offer some serene views for you and your dad to relax in front of. Be sure to look out for some of the Aquarium’s dads – like Vincent the ocellated eagle ray, or the small, committed clownfish dads who do much of the work when it comes to taking care of the eggs.
We’ve got plenty to see and do here, so why not stop for a whole day and have a spot of lunch at our Wave’s café? You can also surprise your dad with a gift from our shop. In the local Sutton Harbour area, there are also some amazing seafood restaurants with locally sourced products like Rockfish (just next door to us) so there’s plenty of choice for dinner too!
