As the world’s largest habitat and covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, it is obvious that any discussion of climate change cannot take place without considering the oceans. The oceans, as massive heat stores, control our climate and, through chemical processes, are intimately linked with the atmosphere.

The potential effects of climate change upon ocean systems include changes to Ocean currents, changes in the distribution of animals, disruption to food chains and destruction of habitats. The exact nature of these changes and the effect that they will have upon our lives can only be estimated. Marine and climate scientists are gathering data and building complex computer models to make predictions about the future but we can all make a difference through our actions today. Find out more about the issues and how you can help at www.climatelab.co.uk.
